president barack obama will travel to new jersey to survey the damage left behind by hurricane sandy. he canceled his campaign appearances for a third straight day. he visited the red cross headquarters and today he will tour with chris christie and he is one of the most prominent supporters and he has repeatedly praised president barack obama's response to sandy. >>> there are three events in the battle ground state of florida. he turned what happened as a campaign event into a storm relief effort. people were encouraged to bring relief supplies and mitt romney helped to bag them up for shipping. >>> and a jump in gas prices. at 44 temperature 5 we will -- 4:45 we will hear what they have to say now. >>> they approve a development plan that will force 150 people to look for new homes. it is home to people living on their boats or on rvs. tenants knew the property was for sale and there are other housing options for sale. >> there are 22 areas that have vacancy. >> they plan to develop 444 units on the site. residents will have to move by the end of the year but no timetable has been set

president obama, citing his record on climate change issues such as raising fuel emissions standards. meanwhile, gop vice presidential candidate paul ryan suggests taking another route. his idea is to drill for oil in the arctic, then invest the profits in renewable energy. consumers proved to be in a spending mood this october. the international council of shopping centers says retailers are reporting modest gains for the month. costco was one of those stores, with sales rising 7% from the same time last year. macy's' same-store sales popped 4.1%, while target saw a smaller increase of 2.4% - lower than analyst expectations. however, superstorm sandy remains a concern going forward. analysts think some consumers along the east coat may have spent extra preparing for sandy and that it could have an impact on christmas spending. retailers hope the spending trend continues into the holiday shopping season. big retailers such as best buy, macy's, kohl's and walmart all open bright and early at 12 am on black friday. kmart opens at 5 am and toys 'r' us at 9 am. and online shopping isn't

, and good morning, everyone. president obama is just a minute away from making an address on hurricane sandy. here is the latest. look at this storm. the center is about two hundred 5 miles east of atlantic city, new jersey, about 260 miles south southeast of new york city. we understand the sustained wind is about 90 miles per hour. it is moving north northwest at 18 m.p.h. and storms are expected from virginia to massachusetts. it is a huge and brought strong with a very low pressure system that is combining to coke and make this a really intense storm. the result of all of this is you have a lot of closures along the east coast, including wall street which is completely shut down, no trading of any kind on the markets. it looks like that will be true as well for tomorrow. because of this, there are a number of u.s. companies that are postponing their quarterly reports. the last time the stock exchange was closed down this way was september 11, 2001, and last closed for a weather-related event back in 1985 for hurricane gloria. it is expected that it will be closed tomorrow as well, the ne

's campaign has an event in milwaukee. tomorrow, president obama will be in green bay. the volitility index, better known as the vix, may be signaling better days ahead. according to reports, a strategist at jpm morgan believes if the vix remains near current levels this week, it will mark a transition from crisis to normal time. his theory is if the vix stays around 16, the 52-week moving average will fall below the july 2011 level to its lowest point since february 2008. we asked a couple of options traders to weigh in, starting with scott bauer of trading advantage.
